The Brittany originated in France and is the only pointing spaniel. It's name is derived from the French Province of Brittany where it was bred
to hunt Woodcock. The first breed standard was written in France in 1907. It was introduced into America in the early 1930’s, and was recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1948. This square and compact dog is rather leggy for a spaniel, it’s height being the same as the length of the body and sports a fine wavy coat. Brittany’s are strong, vigorous, energetic and quick in movement, paired with a delightful temperament which make them great hunting companions as well as family pets. They may be the smallest of the pointing breeds but their eagerness to please more than makes up for their size.
